What's Happening At The Creek AT WCI????
What a great start to the year September was. Everyone quickly adjusted to being back in school and being at The Creek. Our students have been very artistically driven to begin the year including beautiful canvas paintings and cute clay models. Fuse bead creations have also been a huge hit. We also have a number of up and coming pool pros in our midst. Try and find a time when there isn't someone racking up the billiard balls or knocking in the 8 ball for the win.
In early October, we will begin our first community service project by bagging beans and rice which we then donate to the Monument Crisis Center. The food supplies help those who are less fortunate.
Also in October is our Parent Education Night at The Creek at Foothill Middle School. On October 20th, Margaret Dunlap will be talking about how to help your child(ren) cope with the ever present pressures of middle school.
October brought many fun art projects to The Creek. Students participated in a pumpkin carving contest, decorated mini pumpkins galore, made sugar skulls and designed Day of The Dead masks. We also had our first dodgeball day of the year with many sure to follow. Rainy days have turned mostly outside play into board games and Twister competitions.
Another month has quickly come and gone as November was filled with indoor and outdoor activities. The Creek held our first Feast day, which will become a yearly tradition. It was special to get to enjoy a Turkey feast with our students. Hockey has become the outdoor game of choice, while many are still utilizing the basketball courts to hone their game for the upcoming WCI seasons.
We completed our second service project of the year as the students decorated burlap placemats. The placemats were then donated to Meals on Wheels to give out during the holiday season.
Service Projects: Since our beginning The Creek has worked with the Monument Crisis Center providing seasonal donations as well as monthly bags of beans and rice. During the winter months The Creek students will bag donations of small (hotel size) toiletries. We deliver these gifts in mid-December but take donations of toiletries year round. If you have those little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste etc. lying around your home, we would be delighted to take them off your hands!
In the spring we create “Birthday Bags”, filling the bags with cake mixes, frosting, balloons, party hats and brightly colored cups and plates for children who might not have the means for a birthday celebration. Like the toiletries, we happily take donations all year in anticipation of this project.
Our monthly community service project is our Beans and Rice Wednesday. On the last Wednesday of each month, students bag beans and rice for the Crisis center and we also have beans and rice for snack that afternoon.
